Adriena M. Long is an African-American woman and owner of “Food Is My Classroom” (copyright pending). She was born on August 26, 1983, to Ms. Debra K. Long in Atlanta, Georgia. She has one sibling, Sheldon T. Long. Adriena grew up in Decatur, Georgia where she is a product of the Dekalb County School District. Growing up, she wanted to be a pediatrician, but that changed when she began working with children as a young teen to make money. She quickly felt the pull to help those inner-city children through public education. After finishing high school, she applied to the rigorous College of Education program at Georgia State University in Atlanta.

She was accepted the first time she applied and interviewed, which doesn’t always happen. She was very successful in college and graduated with honors in May of 2006 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Science. She then used that degree to apply for a position in the SAME school system she was a product of, which was Dekalb County. She went on to find an opening at a new school in Decatur as a first-grade teacher in May 2006 and began August of that same year. Well, that was many years ago, and she’s still doing her part to serve the children of the community that means so much to her and her family.

Although Adriena loves teaching, her first true love was her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As a young girl, she was taught about Christ’s love by her mother, Debra, during weekly in-home bible study, her uncle, Garrett Fuller of Sharon, Ga., during Sunday School, and her 1st pastor, Richard “RJ” Johnson Jr. of Little Rock Baptist Church. She joined that church as a young girl and gave her life to Christ. She has not turned back and continues to develop a stronger relationship with Christ every day. Today, she is helped in that journey by her Uncle, Robert K. Miles of Athens, Ga, who has become a father figure in her adulthood, her current pastor, Rev. Dr. E. Dewey Smith, Jr., who is her spiritual sheppard and of course, her mother continues to show Christ through the way she lives and serves HIM.

Adriena had another love other than Christ and teaching; it was FOOD! As a single adult without children, she enjoys going out to different restaurants and telling her friends all about it on social media. Her friends/followers began to listen to what she had to say, ask for suggestions for their special occasion, suggest that she start a blog, and ask to tag along on her adventures. This pushed her to reach out to one of her best friends, Joseph Benford, who was in college, the School of Business, studying Communications. Joseph agreed that her concept for a blog/channel was not currently being done in that way, and the name she had picked had NEVER been used. Joseph agreed to take the company under his wing as a project for class. They joined forces to start the campaign for Food Is My Classroom on July 2, 2019. They published their 1st blog on July 3, 2019, on “Slutty Vegan ATL.”

The best is yet to come!
